Why map your catalog to Instagram
Instagram and Facebook don't use your artist's Spotify URI, Apple artist ID, or SoundCloud handle. They use a shared identifier called a Meta ID (also called a Meta/Facebook Artist ID), which tells Meta's music system which artist to credit whenever their music shows up in a Reel, Story, or the Music sticker — and it's what unlocks their artist page inside Instagram and Facebook's own music search.
The good news: getting the Meta ID itself doesn't require waiting on Meta support. It's something your artist (or you, on their behalf) can retrieve directly once two things are true on Meta's side — see below. The real pain point isn't the ID, it's making sure those two things are set up correctly first.
What has to be true on Meta's side first
- The artist needs a real Facebook Page, not a personal profile. This has to be a Business/Artist Page they manage — a personal Facebook profile can't be mapped to music.
- Their Instagram account needs to be a professional account (Business or Creator), not a personal one. Personal Instagram accounts aren't eligible either.
- The Facebook Page and the Instagram account need to be actively connected to each other — this isn't automatic just because both exist. On the Facebook Page: go to Settings → Instagram → Connect Account, log in with the Instagram account's credentials, and authorize the connection. Once connected, the same Meta ID covers both the Page and the linked Instagram account.
Miss any one of these three and the mapping won't work, even with a Meta ID in hand.
Finding the Meta ID
Once the Facebook Page and Instagram account are linked, the ID can be found either way:
- Meta Business Suite: log into business.facebook.com, go to Settings → Accounts → Pages, and the ID appears as a number string beneath the Page name.
- On the Facebook Page itself: click the Page name to open the popup, then Transparency and Privacy Policy — the ID is listed there.
Sending it to Labelcaster support
There's no self-serve field for this in Labelcaster yet. Once you have the Meta ID, email [email protected] with:
- The artist's name
- The Meta ID
- The UPC(s) of any releases affected by the mapping
Support will apply the mapping on the backend. Because there's no dedicated field, double-check the ID against the correct artist and Page before sending — Meta IDs aren't human-readable, so a mismatch is easy to miss.
What happens after mapping
Once mapped, plays and usage of your artist's music on Instagram and Facebook attribute back to their claimed Page/profile — this is what powers the artist tag on Reels using their tracks, Stories music stickers, and search results in Instagram/Facebook's music library.
Labelcaster doesn't manage the content of the Instagram or Facebook Page itself — your artist (or your label) still owns and maintains that presence directly on Meta's platforms. We just make sure the catalog is correctly linked to it.
